Selinsgrove Speedway welcomes a celebrity

SELINSGROVE — There was a new racer on the lineup Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.  Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart surprised fans — and racers– by joining in on the dirt track.

According to the Selinsgrove Speedway website, Stewart raced the Empire Super Sprint (ESS) Mach 1 Chassis 358-360 sprint car challenge, and broke the speedway’s one-lap track record.  Not only was there a buzz at the track, but many in attendance were sharing the surprise with friends on facebook.

This was not Stewart’s first trip to Selinsgrove, he came to a race last year as well, but after a few practice laps the race was canceled due to weather.   This time, Stewart had his chance to race, and he proved that racing 200 laps on a flat track is great practice for a 30-lap dirt track.

Stewart is racing today — NASCAR style — at the Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.   You can find more details about Stewart’s trip down the dirt track online at www.selinsgrovespeedway.com.  (Codi Jade)
