Shamokin man sentenced for deadly crash

SUNBURY – A Shamokin man has been sentenced today to three months in prison for a crash that left his friend dead. As part of a plea deal, 18-year-old Kyle Koontz will spend three-months in jail and six months on house arrest for the death of 19-year-old David Dorsett of Coal Township.

 

Koontz plead guilty in May to involuntary manslaughter, DUI and reckless driving for the accident on June 14th of 2012. Koontz lost control of his vehicle on Anthracite Road in Zerbe Township, killing Dorsett. The two had graduated just a week earlier from Shamokin Area High School. Koontz will begin his sentence immediately. (Ali Stevens)
