Shamokin street light project wrapping up

SHAMOKIN – A street light project in Shamokin will be completed about a month ahead of schedule.  PPL reports they are installing efficient street lights in the downtown and the last major part of the project will involve repaving sections on both sides of Independence Street during the day on April 28 and 29.

To minimize disruptions to traffic and downtown businesses, PPL will be on the scene assisting with traffic control.  The work will include sidewalk repairs.  The project involves replacing 44 street lights and fixtures on new aluminum poles and removing old poles and bases on Independence Street between Market and Shamokin Streets.  There is no cost to the city for the project.  PPL also installed a new underground cable system.  (Ali Stevens)
