Shikellamy Middle School development updates
SUNBURY– The Shikellamy School Board heard a presentation from Vern McKissick of McKissick Associate Architects, about the current development plan for the new Shikellamy Middle School.
Superintendent, Patrick Kelly spoke about new developments to the building. He said, “One of the things that have discussed was full air conditioning. Basically there were just general specs in regards to what the building would look like and so forth. There is a slopped roof that has been added, and they are continuing to develop the design, so I should know more in the future.”
The school will be built on the land that currently holds the old middle school. Demolition of that building will begin in April.
Also at the meeting, Athletic Director Brad Skelton spoke about a possible co-op between Northumberland Christian Academy and Shikellamy’s football program. The co-op would allow students attending Northumberland Christian Academy the opportunity to play football for the Shikellamy School District.
Kelly spoke about the co-op Shikellamy currently holds with Northumberland Christian Academy saying, “We already have softball, bowling, and golf that we have a co-op with Northumberland Christian.”
The board will vote next week on whether to approve a football co-op with Northumberland Christian Academy. The next regular board meeting will be held Thursday, February 13th. The board will also adopt a preliminary budget at that meeting. (Sarah Lagerman)
