Shoppers braving snowy roads for Thanksgiving groceries
SUNBURY – With a snow storm just before the Thanksgiving holiday, many people are braving the conditions to get to the supermarket. At Weis Markets in Sunbury, the snowy parking lot was full of cars. Customers were rushing around the store to stock up on Thanksgiving essentials – like stuffing and turkey. The baking aisle seemed to be the most popular Wednesday afternoon, as customers were stocking up on ingredients for pumpkin pies and chocolatey desserts.
Weis Markets Public Relations Director Dennis Curtin said his stores were prepared for the storm. Extra shipments of products of every kind were sent Tuesday to meet the increase in demand before the storm. Weis also scheduled additional cashiers and extra help in the produce, meat, bakery and deli departments.
While WKOK observed milk and bread in the carts of most customers Wednesday afternoon, the shelves were still fully stocked with essentials. PennDOT has advised motorists to avoid driving during the snow storm. Customers are reminded that many grocery stores will be open until 5:00p.m. Thanksgiving Day. (Codi Jade)
