Snyder County inmate attempts escape

SELINSGROVE — A Snyder County jail inmate is accused of trying to escape four days before his hearing.  According to The Daily Item, 20-year-old Vasco D. Vieira-Marques, of the Old Trail, went missing inside the jail on July 20.

The man, who has been in custody since January 16 for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, was missing for nearly 15 minutes before he was found by a corrections officer.  Vieira-Marques was discovered hiding under a shelf, behind a garbage can, near an exit door.  He was scheduled to appear in Snyder County Court four days later on his request to lower his bail.

State police in Selinsgrove filed a third-degree felony criminal attempted escape charge against Vieira-Marques.  His bail was already set at $50,000.  He has a preliminary hearing set for August 6.  (Codi Jade)
