Snyder County storm damage assessment underway
SELINSGROVE — It was a long night and an early morning for the crews at area emergency management agencies. The strong storms that blew through The Valley left thousands of people without power, darkened traffic signals, and some roads closed.
Chad Aucker, Snyder County 9-1-1 Coordinator told us, they brought in additional staff to handle the problems created by the storm, including a widespread power outage in the Middleburg area. He said some of the emergency planning paid off, “I think things went very well for the most part, we had our staff here, and we increased our staffing levels until about three o’clock in the morning.”
He said, “Then we had some additional staff brought in and then we did an assessment of the area–see what was going on. We focused on the Middleburg area.”
Aucker said all area residents should have an emergency kit including spare batteries, flashlights, candles, an AM battery power radio (tuned to WKOK), and a water supply. He said a website www.ready.gov can help you to prepare.
