Southern Columbia coach dies
COALTOWNSHIP — A sad story in the Catawissa area. The head coach of the Southern Columbia Area varsity women’s basketball team has died. The News Item reports 45-year-old Kevin Collins died Tuesday. The Northumberland County Coroner has said Collins died of a massive heart attack.
Collins was reportedly stung by a bee on the foot at his West Independence Street home. An ambulance responded and he passed away shortly after. Collins coached one year as the women’s varsity basketball coach. He had also been a varsity assistant coach for the men’s team at Southern Columbia and a volleyball coach at Our Lady of Lourdes.
