State Police release Holiday crash statistics

HARRISBURG – State Police have released statistics from their New Year’s holiday driving investigations.  One person was killed and 86 were injured in the 377 crashes from December 31 through January 1.  Of those 377 crashes, 55 were alcohol-related.

Police say troopers made 184 arrests for driving under the influence and issued 1,884 speeding citations.  They also cited 233 individuals for failure to wear seatbelts and cited an additional 32 for failure to properly restrain children in child safety seats.

This year’s statistics differ from last year’s New Year’s holiday, where 10 people were killed and 172 were injured in 552 crashes.  State Police remind everyone to stay safe throughout 2013.  (Codi Jade)
