State Senator: Phillips will leave lasting legacy
HARRISBURG – We have lost a giant. That was the reaction of State Senator John Gordner (R-27th, Berwick) following news of the death of Merle Phillips. He said Phillips was a really good guy.
“Merle Phillips was certainly a giant in our area and will leave a lasting legacy for decades to come. He was heavily involved in all sorts of projects and endeavors throughout our area. He and his office literally touched tens of thousands of lives through personalized constituent service.
Gordner said Phillips was always working hard to do what is best for the area. “He was really a good guy. He was someone who was really dedicated to the area and always looking at how issues effected our area. He will sorely be missed.”
Phillips was a former state representative in the 108th legislative district. He was also appointed as a Northumberland County Commissioner in 2010. He died at the age of 85 Monday morning surrounded by his family. He was married and had five children. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. (Codi Jade)
