Storms: Trees down and power outages Friday

SUNBURY — Severe storms Friday evening caused some problems in The Valley. A tornado watch was posted and while, statewide, there were several areas of heavy damage, the Central Susquehanna Valley was spared heavy damage.

According to Northumberland County 9-1-1, trees were down on several roads across the county. Those areas include Penns Road and Mile Post Road in Upper Augusta Township, and Monastery Road in Ralpho Township. Front Street in Sunbury was also blocked for a time. There are no road closures to report today.

PPL reported numerous power outages, totaling about 5,000 in their entire system last night. Today they report about 500 outages system wide. Of that number, Northumberland County still has about 100 outages in Northumberland Borough, and several local townships.

AccuWeather says our area received about 3/4 of an inch, to one inch of rain. The highest wind speed, about fifty-miles-per-hour, was measured at the Penn Valley Airport near Selinsgrove at around 6:30pm. Area county 9-1-1 systems report several trees down but no widespread problems. (Codi Jade)
