Sun Home Health & Hospice helping local veterans
UNDATED — Sun Home Health & Hospice is encouraging veterans to become ‘counted.’ Donna Jenkins of the Northumberland business is also a veteran herself and says injured or not, all veterans should register with the VA.
“Even though you may not be eligible for help, you will be a count in that VA facility’s area. That way, when they look at reimbursement resources, they will see how many veterans are in a particular area and that would allow more funds for veterans in the area who need help.”
Sun Home Health & Hospice is also involved in some outreach efforts for veterans that they assist. One is a volunteer program called Veteran to Veteran. “We are trying to recruit veteran volunteers so that they can be with one of our veteran patients. We feel it will help veterans’ tell their story.”
Jenkins says Sun Home Health & Hospice also salutes veterans they provide hospice care to by giving each one an individual ceremony. The ceremony typically takes place at the veteran’s home, where family and friends surround them. It involves the veteran getting a certificate, flags and a pin, along with being able to tell their story to all who have gathered.
