Sunbury Celebration celebrates recreation’
SUNBURY— The excitement continues in Sunbury this week with the annual Sunbury Celebration.
Cheryl Delsite, administrative assistant in the Mayor’s office spoke about a new attraction to the celebration saying, “new this year as a fundraiser we are doing laser tag at the Sunbury ice rink on the ice rink floor — of course there is no ice. It is $5 for a twenty minute game and you can play that during pool hours. It is open Monday through Friday, 12 pm until 7 pm and Saturday it will be open from 11:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.”
The celebration kicked off last Saturday with the Light Up the Sky kick ball tournament to benefit the fireworks. Other attractions coming upthis week are the Family Fun Night happening at the Oppenheimer playground on Thursday evening and a free Splash Hop at the Sunbury Community Pool on Friday night.
Delsite said, “We invite everybody in the valley to come on over and enjoy the day over here. Of course, we have the area’s best fireworks on Saturday night beginning around 9:30p.m. So you can come out to the Persing Recreation Complex and enjoy the good show.”
The celebration does not stop after the fireworks — Sunday morning there will be a soapbox derby on the 1000 block of Market Street. Registration is from 9:00a.m. to 10:30a.m. and the race begins at 11:00a.m. For more information and a schedule of events, please visit www.wqkx.com. (Sarah Lagerman)
