Sunbury gets ready for second annual New Year’s celebration
SUNBURY — The city of Sunbury is gearing up to ring in 2014. The second annual New Year’s Eve Celebration will take place downtown December 31.
Sunbury mayor David Persing says last year’s inaugural celebration went so well, they wanted to do it again. “Nobody knew how it was going to go last year and my biggest fear was that we would have about 12 people there. We ended up having about a thousand people, so it was a huge success. There will be various things going on in the downtown area. Usually people go to local establishments first and then closer to midnight, start to migrate down to the middle.”
Monday night, Sunbury City Council discussed two changes that will be made during this year’s celebration. “What we have to do is pass the open container law, so that people can walk around outside downtown with an open container. Also, we extended the noise ordinance in the city until 1:00a.m,” says Persing.
The celebration takes place on 4th and Market Street. For more information go here. (Sara Bartlett)
