Sunbury Rotary helps local kids shop for the holidays
SUNBURY – The Sunbury Rotary Club held their annual Shop for Tots event on Saturday, where children from lower income families are able to buy presents for the holidays. 30 children from the Shikellamy School District were treated to a $100 shopping spree at Kmart on Saturday to buy gifts for their families to learn the lesson of giving a gift.
10-year-old Karin (Kah-rin) from Chief Shikellamy enjoyed shopping for her sister. She said, “I got my sister mocassins. I can’t wait to see my sister smile because she has been begging for them.”
After the shopping, the kids were treated to lunch and then their gifts were wrapped by the Shikellamy cheerleaders. The Rotary Club uses the proceeds from their annual car show in Sunbury to pay for the Shop for Tots event.
Randy Shroyer is a Rotarian. He said, “This event kicks off the holiday season for me. It’s the thing that makes me start thinking about Christmas. Just being able to help these young people out and just being involved. Being around them when they are shopping for their family is a whole lot of fun.” (Ali Stevens)
