Superintendent search for Midd West continues
MIDDLEBURG – The deadline to apply for the superintendent’s job in the Midd West School district is at the end of the month. The Midd-West School District said they are offering a multi-year contract to an applicant with proven experience as a superintendent.
They are advertising for the position following the sudden resignation of Dr. Wesley Knapp in October after about 5 years on the job. Sources say Knapp was forced to resign after a list of charges were formulated by the school board accusing him of various offenses. The Daily Item obtained the list, which included accusations that Knapp failed to monitor federally funded programs, conducted negotiations to privately sell Perry-West Perry and West Beaver Elementary Schools without the board’s approval, and lied to the board about a number of personnel issues.
Daphne Snook is serving as the interim superintendent until a permanent replacement is found. The board president, Victor Abate, refuses to discuss the list of accusations that were made public by the Daily Item. Once the deadline of March 31st for superintendent applications approaches, interviews will be done during the months of April and May. It is hoped a new superintendent will be in place by the 2014-15 school year. The Chester County Intermediate Unit is handling the search for a new superintendent. (Ali Stevens)
