Tough decision ahead for Shik board
SUNBURY – In light of expected enrollment increases, the Shikellamy School District is exploring options to open a new Middle School. The physical site of the school prompted discussion at last night’s school board work session. Superintendent Pat Kelley summarized the options being considered noting the C.W. Rice building, Sunbury Middle School and Chief Shikellamy Elementary School as possibilities. While Kelley could not provide a timeline for when the project will be put in place, the school board members noted they are still in talks with architects.
Hunt Associates, an engineering, architecture and land surveying company, advised board members on potential sites that could accommodate the Shikellamy School District’s expanding size. The options discussed in the meeting are far from final. The board discussed bringing in more consultants and architects to come in and survey the sites to help the board move ahead on their plans.
