Daughter of retired District Judge William Kear killed

LEWISBURG – It was the daughter of retired District Judge William Kear of Milton who was killed in a crash Sunday night.  State police say 35-year-old Ellen Marie Kear, of Turbotville, was killed on Route 15 in KellyTownship, UnionCounty around 9:00p.m. She was ejected from her car and run over by a vehicle driving the wrong way on Route 15.

Troopers say Kear was struck head-on by the vehicle of 81-year-old Edward Peace of New York, who was driving the wrong way on Route 15.  He drove through the AJK Boulevard intersection, sideswiped a car, and then hit Kear’s vehicle. There were a total of five vehicles involved in the crash.  Other victims include a female from Wellsboro and two people from Milton.  Kear was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.

Peace suffered moderate injuries and was treated and released at Evangelical Community Hospital.  No other injuries were reported.  Route 15 was shut down in both directions for several hours following the crash.  Kear’s father, William Kear retired in 2011 after 25 years on the bench. The former police officer took the seat of district judge in April of 1985 in Milton and continued through January of 2011.  (Ali Stevens)
