Union County spared major storm damage
No widespread storm damage in Union County
LEWISBURG — Union County EMA did some quick storm assessment Sunday night and Monday morning, and except for lots of trees down, and extensive power outages Sunday, there was not widespread damage. In the county where tornados have been reported in recent history, Michelle Sanders, the Union County EMA coordinator said, they were spared heavy damage.
She said, “We were called out to check out a cornfield that was flattened by wind, as a possible tornado, but it appeared as though ‘flat line winds’ were responsible” She said those types of winds can be just as strong as tornado, only without a ‘circular rotation.’ UnionCounty did have a tornado in 2011, and there were several instances in previous years.
