VIDEO HERE: 170 volunteers help with Day of Action

Watch volunteers in action during Day of Action:

SUNBURY – Woodworking, painting and landscaping.  It was all part of Friday’s Day of Action.  An initiative by the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way volunteers helped at local non-profits and human service organizations.

Sunbury Rotarian Ned Clark of Northumberland was helping at the Degenstein Community Library in Sunbury for the sixth year.  “Any community shows its strength by the amount of volunteerism.  Sunbury has improved greatly because people do volunteer.”

Over 170 volunteers helped in Northumberland, Snyder and UnionCounties.  Andrea Tufo, Executive Director of the DonaldHeiterCommunity Center in Lewisburg, says volunteers were giving the center a facelift.  “They are building shelving, repairing the floor in the attic, painting our kitchen and much more.”

Tufo says this is a day they look forward to each year.  “We are lucky because the community center certainly would not have the funds to provide for these kinds of projects.”

Volunteers also helped at Haven Ministries and the YMCA in Sunbury, the Jungle Café in Milton, the MiddlecreekAreaCommunity Center in Beaver Springs and more.  You can see more from Day of Action with a video at wkok.com. (Sara Bartlett)
