VIDEO HERE: Be a tourist in your own backyard

LEWISBURG – Taking a vacation does not necessarily mean you have to leave the area.  The Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau is encouraging everyone in The Valley to be a backyard tourist.  Barb Pick is the member services coordinator at the bureau.  “We like to educate local people as well as visitors to the bureau what there is to see and do in their own backyard.”

Pick says many people are attracted to The Valley’s natural beauty and of course, big draws for the area include Knoebel’s Amusement Resort and Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland.  Clyde Peeling says they keep track of their visitors.  “About 60% of our visitations are within our Central PA area.  About 40% are outside of the area.  We take visitors’ zip codes to determine that.”

Backyard tourist week was held at the beginning of May, but Pick says any day is great to explore what is found in your backyard.  For more information on sights, sounds and events in the area, you can visit the Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau on Hafer Road in Lewisburg or go to (Sara Bartlett)
