Volunteers to help manage rail trail
LEWISBURG — The Buffalo Valley Rail Trail has some new volunteers. LARA has created an Adopt-a-Trail program to help maintain and enhance the trail, and eight groups have signed on to help.
This year’s volunteers include Cub Scout Pack 3538 and Boy Scout Troop 538, Computer Support Services Inc., Dr. Shawn and Kelly McGlaughlin, Litter Critters, Cub Scout Pack 3509, Don and Nancy Bowman, the Bell-Gustafson and Vollymayre-Lee families, and the Buffalo Creek Watershed Alliance. They will be in charge of monitoring a specific section of the trail for one year. The primary duty of the volunteers is to travel the trail and pick up litter and keep the trail surface clear of obstacles.
As part of an Earth Day Celebration, a brief training session will be held on April 20. The training session will be followed by a community trail work day from 1 to 3p.m. For more information or to sign up for the work day, you can contact firstname.lastname@example.org, or call the LARA office at 570-524-4774.
