“Wake the Lake” in Sunbury Saturday
SUNBURY — The water has been getting warmer, and the folks in Sunbury think it is time to celebrate the opening of the Susquehanna River. The City of Sunbury, Sunbury Revitalization Incorporated, and the Friends of Shikellamy State Park are sponsoring “Wake the Lake” Saturday at the River Front Amphitheater.
Tonya Ditty is on the Board of Directors at SRI. She said, “Wake the Lake is a first annual celebration of the Sunbury river opening, starting with the Blessing of the Boat at noon, followed by live entertainment. There will be food vendors there and craft vendors, as well as live music.”
Ditty said the event is open to anyone and everyone. “We are hoping to attract both water lovers, as well as land dwellers, if you will,” she said. “Primarily it will be motorized boats that will be doing the blessing, because the water will be pretty choppy, but we certainly welcome all the rowers and kayakers and everyone that loves water sports, as well as everyone in the area that loves live music and loves to be around the river.”
The Blessing of the Boats starts at noon, followed by live music from the Frank Wicher Band, the Blind Chitlin Kahunas, and Jesse. “Wake the Lake” is at the River Front Amphitheater Saturday. You can find more details online at www.SRIpa.com. (Codi Jade)
