WIC offices to remain open
SUNBURY — Local WIC offices will be able to stay open after all. Following an announcement Monday that the Selinsgrove and Sunbury offices would be closing due to a funding freeze, WIC received some monetary support.
Family Health Council of Central PA swooped in to rescue the threatened offices. President and CEO of the Family Health Council Cindy Stewart contacted the agency to announce that they would forward a check on August 30 to prevent closures.
Thanks to their support, all WIC offices in Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Mifflin and Juniata Counties will remain open and will continue to have the same office hours throughout September. WIC is hopeful that state funding will be released shortly.
WIC stands for Women, Infants and Children and is a short-term public health nutrition program where low-income mothers and children can receive nutritious foods through vouchers provided to them. (Codi Jade)
