Work release petition denied for a man who killed a friend

LEWISBURG — A petition for work release by a Mifflinburg man who shot and killed a friend has been denied.  The Daily Item reports 21-year-old Alexander Shoemaker will be eligible for parole on June 12th, after serving the minimum sentence for accidentally shooting and killing 16-year-old Anthony Hernandez of Mifflinburg.

The incident took place on May 8th of 2010, while Shoemaker and Hernandez were smoking marijuana and playing video games.  He was sentenced to 30-months to 5-years in prison.

Shoemaker petitioned the court to be sent to state prison, where he could be granted work release, but the request was denied on Wednesday.  (Ali Stevens)
