Shawn Carey (6-10 am)
|As the John Mellencamp 80s classic “Small Town” goes, I was born here and I’ll die here. The “radio bug” hit me while stuck at home with the flu in 1979, the day Three Mile Island was in the news. I was truly impressed by what an impact radio can have and how it continues to shape our lives. My first radio gig started in June 1983, babysitting the equipment on Sunday mornings, running religious shows at my hometown station, WBPZ-AM in Lock Haven, Pa. Actually, my grandfather was a founding trustee of the former Lock Haven Broadcasting Corporation back in the 1940s so I guess getting into radio was bound to happen sooner or later. The FM station in Lock Haven changed format from country to rock-n-roll in 1986, my first time playing rock on the radio.
In 1990, I turned into a vampire for a few years doing overnights in Williamsport. Eventually, I saw the light, literally, and moved up to the late afternoon shift.
I’ve been here at Sunbury Broadcasting since May 1995. After a 15 month stint in newspaper advertising, I returned to SBC in the Spring of 2004.
Now, I have the chance to host a morning drive radio show…..It’s very exciting!! As long as I have that first cup or two of coffee, you’ll always get my best shot. I have big shoes to fill. I owe it to you and the people that made Soft Rock 100.9 The Valley an integral part of Central Pennsylvania over the years.
It is an honor to be part of your life in the morning. You’re always invited to spend time in “Carey’s Corner,” weekday mornings from 6 to 9, on Soft Rock 100.9 The Valley.
