Mom pleads no contest to baby beating

LEWISBURG – A Mifflinburg mother accused of severely beating her baby has entered a plea of no contest to felony child endangerment.  As part of the plea agreement, charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault were dropped against 20-year-old Jasmine Bearden.   The Daily Item reports Bearden was immediately sentenced to six to 13 months in prison, but was given credit for time served in Union County Prison.  Bearden was sentenced last week to four to 18-months in prison after admitting to attempting to sell marijuana at Geisinger Medical Center while her baby was hospitalized in October of 2013.   Police say Bearden beat her six-week-old son, causing serious injuries.  A Geisinger physician testified at…

Mifflinburger pleads guilty to drug sales

MIFFLINBURG — A Mifflinburg woman, charged with severely beating her baby, has pleaded guilty to trying to sell drugs to friends in the hospital where her son was being treated. The Daily Item reports 20-year-old Jasmine Bearden was in court Monday and admitted to trying to sell marijuana at Geisinger Medical Center in October of 2013. Her 6-week-old son was hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit at the time, after Bearden allegedly beat the baby, causing severe injuries.
